Janet Marie Carney
October 12, 1959 - June 1, 2025

Janet Marie Carney was born October 12, 1959, and called to her heavenly home on June 1, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed at home surrounded by her loving family. Janet was strongly rooted in her faith and instilled those values in her children.

Janet was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY, and grew up in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. She was a proud member of the St. Ignatius Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. She attended Hicksville High School/New Utrecht High School and after graduating she went on to attend Briarcliffe Secretarial School. She loved working in Manhattan at McCaffrey & McCall and playing softball with her co-workers in Central Park.

Janet met the love of her life, Walter, who grew up across the street in Hicksville. They married on May 26, 1984, then moved to Central Florida and were blessed with three daughters. While her children were growing up, she taught Sunday school at her church and worked as a food service manager at Lake County Schools for over 17 years.

Janet is predeceased by her father, Patrick O'Dowd, mother, Angela O'Dowd, stepmother, Gloria O'Dowd, and brother, Patrick O'Dowd. Janet is survived by her husband, Walter Carney, her three daughters, Kristine (Kevin) Sherman, Kelly (Malcom) Jones and Kathleen (Robbie) Milejczak, her sister, Maureen (Timothy) Manley, step-siblings, Kathi (Vincent) Paolillo, Robert (Margie) Cornman, Stephen (Jackie) Cornman, along with her beloved grandchildren, James, Juliana, Elizabeth and Kensington. Janet also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation hours held at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, FL on Friday, June 6, 2025, between 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be the following day, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family would also like to extend an invitation to come back to their home for a Celebration of Life located at 8715 County Road 561 Clermont, FL 34711.

In lieu of flowers, making a donation to Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated as they helped Janet tremendously during her battle with cancer.
