William Judson Owens Sr.

1934 – 2025

William Judson "Bill" Owens Sr. passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 91 in Clermont, Florida.

Born on January 13, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edgar and Marcia Owens, Bill was one of nine children. He grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania then Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he attended Holy Spirit High School.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps with a tour in the Korean War. His military service remained one of his greatest honors, and he was especially moved by a recent Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., where he toured military monuments and museums.

After his service, Bill began his career in the Painters Union in Atlantic City before founding Owens Paint and Wallpaper. Working alongside his two sons, he built a family business that became a source of pride and connection.

In retirement, Bill and his beloved wife, Shirley, relocated from Brigantine, New Jersey, to Florida. There, he enjoyed a part-time job at Disney World and many memorable adventures, including cruises, trips to Europe, and countless camping seasons at Fort Wilderness, where they were happy snowbirds.

Bill loved fishing, took up golf later in life, and was always ready to share a Guinness with family and friends. A Philadelphia sports fan, he rarely missed a Phillies or Eagles game.

Above all, Bill cherished time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Ryan), his two sons William (Joyce) and Michael (Lisa), six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A military funeral honoring his service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

Bill will be remembered for his devotion to family, his deep pride in service, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
