Obituary

William Frank Barkman passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Clermont, FL on September 13, 2020.

Frank was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  A graduate of Southwest Miami High School, Frank was a proud Eagle with many fond memories playing linebacker for the varsity football team. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he volunteered for an overseas assignment and was ultimately stationed in Korat, Thailand during the Vietnam War.  While there, he met his love and wife of 48 years, Sa-ngeeum Barkman.  After returning home from Thailand, Frank began his career with Otis Elevator.  He quickly rose in the ranks from Helper to Mechanic and eventually serving as the Director of Field Engineering for North America. He had a long distinguished career that took him around the world and also included several patents.  Upon his retirement, Frank relocated to Clermont, Florida where he was active with the West Orange Seniors and the West Oaks Walking Club.  During that time, he enjoyed traveling on numerous trips and actively participating in social activities such as singing in the chorus.  He also enjoyed working on his wife's many gardening and home projects.

Frank is remembered as a hard-working, generous man with a sharp wit and hearty laugh. He shared his love of camping with his children with many happy vacations spent traveling in the family RV.  Frank was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed scuba diving, spearfishing, and golfing. He was often heard singing anything from classic rock to belting out rousing renditions of "The Impossible Dream".  Frank was kind and compassionate, freely giving his time and resources to family, friends and even strangers.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents William and Doris Barkman.  He is survived by his loving wife, Sa-ngeeum Barkman; his son, Charlie Barkman, and his wife, Pam Barkman; his daughter, Wandee Barkman Diaz, and her husband, Izzy Diaz; his daughter, Mali Bartlett, and her husband, Josh Bartlett; his sister, Linda Koravos; and his sister-in-law Jah Smith and her husband, Kevin Smith.  He also leaves behind three grandchildren Julia Storrs, Jacob Storrs and Marlena Bartlett whom he loved very much.

A celebration of life will be held for family and close friends on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, Florida with visitation from 11:00am to 12:00pm , followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm. Frank's family will receive additional friends after the service.
