William D. "Bill" Harb, 93, of Groveland, FL passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Mike Conley Hospice House, Clermont. Bill was born on December 3, 1921 in Rockford, OH, son of Oscar Alonzo and Opal Almira (nee Thornhill) Harb. He was one of the owners and operators of Harb Tractor And Equipment in Groveland, Florida. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and also a member of the Mascotte United Methodist Church, Mascotte, FL.
During WWII Bill operated a wrecker used to retrieve damaged/disabled tanks and large trucks, sometimes during combat operations. He travelled first to England, landing in Wales and later travelled with duty assignments in Holland, Belgium, France, and all over Germany.
Returning to the United States after the war Bill continued to serve. He was Mayor of Mascotte, Florida and also served as Commander of American Legion Post #239 and was also a Master Mason of Lodge #190 in Groveland, Florida.
Bill Harb led a very active lifestyle once stateside after the war. He enjoyed fishing, camping at the beach and in the Georgia mountains, NASCAR, football, and gardening.
Bill is survived by his children, Cheryl Ann Harb and Lana Jo (Terry) Hanifin both of Groveland, William Gene (Mary) Harb of St. Augustine, FL and step-son George (Nancy) Inglis of Inglis, FL; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Harb.
