William D. Bowman, 88, passed away on January 3 at home in Clermont FL while under the care of hospice and his loving family. Mr. Bowman had been ill for several months. He was born on May 31st 1925 in Emeryville NY to Lawson E. Bowman and Rosalie M. Bowman. He served in the Army during WWII from August 1943 to November 1945. Mr. Bowman was proud to have served his country. He was married on July 3,1952 to Ruby E. Bowman. Mr. Bowman retired from the Fluor Company in 1985 after 45 years of service. He was one of the founding members of the Gouverneur Rescue Squad, member of the VFW, Elks Club, Odd Fellows and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Ruby of 61 years, son Craig Bowman and daughter in law Theresa, daughter Jeralia Bowman-Kolb and son in law Bill Kolb. Grandchildren, Chelsea and Eric Calabrese, Chase Kolb and Matthew Bowman, all of Clermont FL. Sister Joyce and husband Joe Walters and nephews, Dave and Doug Walters of Cazenovia NY. Bill, or our "Poppy", loved people, he never met a stranger. If you came to his door you were welcome into his home. Memorial donations can be made to hospice or to the Gouverneur Rescue Squad. The committal service for Mr. Bowman will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with honors provided by the US Army Honor Guard. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 AM on that day.
