VIRGIL (JIM) BYRUM, JR.
Virgil James Byrum, Jr. age 82 of Clermont, Florida (formerly of Toledo) passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his home in Clermont, Florida. Jim was born June 23, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Virgil and Violet (Ames) Byrum.
Jim graduated from Macomber Vocational Technical High School in 1947 and went to work for Libbey Glass after high school and then enlisted in the Marine Corps serving in the Korean War. After serving in the war, he went back to Libbey Glass where he met his future wife, Margaret Napier. They were married April 1953.
Jim retired from Libbey Glass in 1984 and made his home in Clermont, Florida where he was actively involved with the South Lake Marine Corps League. He started a novelty clock business with his friend, Dave. They made and sold handmade wooden clocks at flea markets and the internet.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Margaret; 2 daughters, Pam (Jim) Westerman, Terrie Ellis; 5 grandsons Brett (Cara) Westerman, Derek Westerman,
Lucas and Nathan Latta, Aaron Ellis and 5-month old great-grandson Luke Westerman; sister Jacqueline Vogt; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Thursday, August 25th at Becker Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions in memory can be made to South Lake Marine Corps League in Clermont, Florida in Jim's name.
