IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vincent James
Decostello
May 12, 1941 – October 6, 2022
Vincent James DeCostello, 81, of Winter Garden, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 6, 2022 after a difficult seven-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born May 12, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Vinny proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps earning recognition as a Rifle Expert. After an honorable discharge from the Corps, Vinny settled into working for the family carting business, DeCostello & Sons in New York City.
In 1967, he married the love of his life, Renee DeCostello (nee Sedano), and began to build a family while residing in Brooklyn. Their daughter Kim and son Vincent were welcomed to the family. Later, Vinny and family moved to Port Orange, Florida, where he opened Vinny's Restaurant. It was also in Florida that Vinny and Renee welcomed their daughter Nicole into the world.
Eventually Vinny and the family moved back north to Cedar Grove, New Jersey, with Vinny working at the law firm, Grotta, Glassman & Hoffman, and spending his days caring for his family and cooking lasagna and meatballs. He dearly loved his wife and adored spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Never one to take a day off, Vinny moved into retirement by joining the American Legion Signac Memorial Post 108 in Little Falls, New Jersey. He served as the Commander of Post 108 for six years before moving to Florida with Renee in 2021. While Commander, Vinny was often found shaking hands, sharing stories, and proudly making improvements to the Post to provide his fellow veterans a comfortable place to enjoy good company.
Vinny is survived by his wife, Renee of 55 years; children Kim Baglieri of Clark, NJ, Vinny (Yufeng) DeCostello of Toluca Lake, CA, and Nicole (Peter) Cole of Winter Garden, FL; his seven grandchildren John, Erica, Graham, Oliver, Charlotte, Cali, and Brooks; sister Maryann (Marty) Lehat of Holbrook, NY; brother Frank (Cynthia) DeCostello of The Villages, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his sister, Amy Fazio, and his mother and father, Mary Grace and James DeCostello.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 4:30pm until 8pm at Becker Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, 11am, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, Florida.
