IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Veronica "Ronnie"
Llewella Evans
January 18, 1948 – March 18, 2021
Veronica Llewella Evans was born on a Sunday, January 18, 1948 and true to the child's poem, she was fair and wise and good in every way. Her mother, Margaret O'Garra Morgan, was a seamstress and homemaker, and her father, Richard Llewellyn Morgan, from whom she inherited her middle name, worked as the supervisor of the housekeeping department at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City.
Ronnie, as she was fondly and affectionately called, lived in the Bronx most of her life and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1956. Before deciding on a career path, Ronnie initially wanted to become a nun. She was quickly discouraged by her parents and steered in the direction of nursing. In 1959, Ronnie graduated from The Mount Sinai School of Nursing in Manhattan, New York and became a registered nurse. She loved the field and went on to achieve many outstanding awards and acknowledgements.
Upon graduation, as a graduation gift, her parents rewarded her achievements and surprised her with what would be the first of many cruises she would take. When she returned from that cruise, Ronnie went to the annual Montserratian Progressive Society Dance at the Diplomat Hotel in Manhattan. Attendance at that dance would become the pivotal beginning of a long and fruitful relationship with who was to become her husband, Aston George Evans. Aston and Ronnie dated for a little less than a year before he asked for her hand in marriage. They were married on July 17, 1971 and remained married and very much in love to this day.
From this marriage, Ronnie and Aston had three children, Aston George II, Vanessa Renee and Chafin Llewellyn. They were the light of her life and she loved them dearly.
Ronnie's story, however, does not end there. Ronnie went on to study at Columbia University in New York, progressing even further in nursing administration. Still eager to accomplish as much as possible in her chosen field, Ronnie received a Master's degree in Public Health and Administration from The New School in 1993. Over the course of her career, she received many honors, including Nurse of the Year Award for New York State, as well as recognition for mentorship at the Black Achievers in Industry Award Ceremony.
Ronnie retired from nursing in 2007 and she and Aston relocated to Clermont, FL. There they started the next chapter of their life together -- living, laughing and continuing to love each other deeply.
Even after retiring to Florida, Ronnie was determined to make a difference. She continued to be an advocate for children. Ronnie was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lake County. There she volunteered as a guardian ad litem in the Lake County Florida Court System. Ronnie was chairperson of the Community Outreach Program at her home parish, St. Matthias Episcopal Church, and was extremely active with the Boys and Girls Club of Clermont.
Ronnie transitioned from this life on March 18, 2021. She leaves behind to celebrate her life her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, her children, Aston II, Vanessa, Chafin and Jean; daughters-in law, Tanisha and Aracelis, and son-in-law, James; grandchildren, Jovan, Brianna, India, Madison, Aston III, Jaylen, Jacob and Naima; great grandchildren Tamia and Raegan; sisters and brothers, Deborah, Desmond, Hazel, Robert, Valerie and Allen; nieces and nephews, Robert Jr., Morgan, Courtney, Cornell, David and Jade and a host of friends and family who mourn her passing, rejoice her life and will never forget her.
