At 17, Tim met the requirements, received a congressional nomination, and was accepted to The United States Military Academy at West Point. A goal he made when just a young boy. After graduating from West Point in 1957, Tim served honorably with a distinguished, thirty year career in the United States Air Force obtaining the rank of (full) Colonel at the age of 43. During the first duty station in South Korea, he met his wife Won Hee Wu. They were married in Burlington, VT in December of 1960. Colonel Lawton served two tours during the Vietnam War and was stationed in various other places such as Washington, D.C. Tim became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1977 and served in various positions of responsibility and leadership. His two areas he had the most passion for was Scouting and serving in the Orlando Florida Temple. He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Because of this, he lived every day doing his duty to the fullest and serving others unceasingly. Despite a prestigious career and engaged church service, Tim's love for family was always first. He loved his parents and took care of both of them in their years of advanced age until they passed. He loved his younger brother, James Lawton (Jim) and was devastated when he succumbed to cancer. He loved his devoted spouse Won Hee unconditionally. Tim took care of Won Hee as her caregiver during the last months of her life with cancer. Together in life they made sure their adopted twin boys Andrew and Christopher had everything they needed, especially love. Tim's constant thoughts were of how his family can be an eternal family.
