IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Theodore
Reed
March 5, 1931 – November 25, 2019
Thomas Theodore "Tom" Reed
Thomas Theodore Reed, 88, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2019.
Tom was born March 5, 1931, in Evansville, IN, to the late Helena (Hermann) and Edward Reed, the oldest of four children. His lifelong love of football began when he and his brother Merle played at Reitz High School in Evansville. After his graduation in 1949, he joined the US Army, serving for two years in Korea and Japan. He received his degree in accounting from the University of Evansville, prior to entering Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1963. Tom was a beloved veterinarian for 52 years in Indiana and Florida, owning his own clinic in Bargersville, IN, for many years.
Nothing was more important to Tom than his family. He married Karen Sue (Dyer) Bennett on February 4, 1972, and they raised three children, Brent (Cyndi) Bennett of Nokomis, FL; Beth (Greg) Kraljev of Port Orange, FL; and Ryan Reed of Clermont, FL. Tom is also survived by three grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Bennett of Franklin, IN, and Jaxon Thomas Reed and Jakob Eli Reed of Clermont, FL, as well as a sister, Julia Mallory; nieces, Jill Mallory-Pedersen and Amy Mead; and nephews, John Mallory, Steve Seibert and Tom, Ben and Ron Reed. Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Reed, and a sister, Sarah Seibert.
When not caring for clients' pets, Tom enjoyed car races, riding his motorcycle, photography and music, especially classical music. After retirement, Tom and Karen loved to travel and take cruises, visiting Hawaii, Alaska and Europe, as well as touring extensively across the continental United States. A few years ago, Tom was baptized and dedicated his life to the Lord. He loved his Christian family so much.
Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday, Dec. 3, with a memorial service at 11 am Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, FL.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Tom's name to Cornerstone Hospice, Mike Conley House, 2100 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont, FL 34711.
