Thomas W. Maibach, 82, a devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Mike Conley Cornerstone Hospice facility in Clermont, FL.  He was born in Peoria, IL, on July 30, 1942.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Juanita Maibach, brother Bill, and sister Ann. He is survived by his wife Janet; son Christopher Castner, Winter Springs, FL; daughter Amy Zeagler and son-in-law Christian Zeagler, New Smyrna Beach, FL;   granddaughters Nicole Whisler, Panama City Beach, FL, and Molly Whisler, Ft. Myers, FL; and step-granddaughter Jaci Zeagler, of Lexington, VA, sister-in-law Pam Maibach, Peoria, IL, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He and his wife have lived in the Summit Greens community in Clermont, FL, for 24 years.  During his years there, he volunteered many hours at Summit Greens serving on various committees. He was a member of the Living Hope Methodist Church in Clermont, FL.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years at duty stations in Keflavik, Iceland and Key West, FL from 1967 to 1971.  His love of the Keys eventually found Tom and Janet living at the Coral Harbor Club in Islamorada, FL, for 18 years.  He was active there in  church and civic organizations. He loved fishing, diving, and boating in the Keys.  He was also a runner and participated in many marathons.  During his life, he had a passion for cars.  He owned Corvettes and other sports cars throughout the years. This hobby resulted in a partnership company, American Pride Car Wash, in Bartonville, IL.

He attended Knox College in Galesburg, IL, for two years on a track, javelin, and running scholarship and was a Beta Theta Pi fraternity member.  He then transferred to Bradley University in Peoria, IL.  He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and was a social member of the Sigma Pi Epsilon fraternity at Bradley.

He worked as a computer programmer for the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, a hospital group which was later acquired by McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis.  Eventually, he became a lead programmer and supervisor in HBO & Company which merged with McKesson, a national hospital service corporation. The computer systems he helped develop served hundreds of hospitals throughout the country.

A private Celebration of Life service will take place in the FL Keys.  Donations in his memory may be sent to any Veterans' Organization, the Mike Conley Cornerstone Hospice facility in Clermont, FL, or the American Cancer Society.
