Thomas Walter Edwards, 81, died after a long illness on 4 March. He was born in North Carolina and grew up on Long Island, New York. He was a graduate of East Meadow High School, and the State University of New York at Stonybrook. He was a partner in Ward Electronics.
Thomas was an avid outdoorsman, hiker and tennis player. He was a longtime patron of the arts, a vocalist, guitar player, and played in numerous theater productions. He loved to read, preferring the daily newspaper and historical biographies. Thomas was a member of the Clermont Tennis Association, sang with the Vocal Express Barbershop Quartet, and a member of the Oakland Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Eleanor Edwards and by his brother William. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Phyllis; daughter Lynne Marie Kirby (Ken), their children Ryan (Cari) and Jared (Kyler), great grandchildren Graylyn and Declan; son Thomas Richard Edwards (Angela), their children Thomas Jordan and Caitlin (Jessie); daughter Kim Marie Marchand (Rick), their children Alyssa (Ben) Schultz and Rick (Kelly); his brother Jonathan (Becky); stepdaughter Jan Smith (Joe) and step grandchildren Lexi, Josh, Lynzie, and Jake. Nieces, nephews and cousins include the Plotts of Asheville NC, Jason, Rachel, Rhys, and Jude; the Edwards of Wapakoneta, OH, Charles, Carolyn, Laura, and Katie; the Eicholts of Ottoville, OH, Stacy, Erik, and Tony; the Edwards of Grand Rapids, MI, Christopher and Barbara; the Edwards of Eaton, PA, James, Shayna, and Daisy; the Pilkes of Port Chester, NY, George and Suey; Saundra Wannemacher, of Ocala, FL.
The Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM 18 March, Becker Funeral Home, 806 West Magnolia Avenue, Clermont, FL 34711. Thomas will be interred in Pike Cemetery, Gomer, Ohio on a date yet to be determined.
