Obituary

Thomas Beames (Tom), age 79, of Clermont, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 with his wife of 57 years, Joyce, by his side.  Born June 1, 1942, Tom grew up in Schenectady, New York, and is predeceased by his father, Clare Beames, mother Evelyn West Beames, brother Clare Beames III, and sister Damasita (Dimmy) Miner. Tom is survived by his wife, Joyce, his three children, Tom (Donna) Beames of Jacksonville, Susan (Keith) Kocarek, of Orlando, and Lt. Col Michael Beames of Jacksonville, NC.  Additionally, he is survived by 8 grandchildren: Lauren and Ally Beames; Aiden (Barbara), Devan, Jordan and Kristen Kocarek; and  Anna and Owen Beames.  He is also survived by his brother, Bill Beames, of Miami.

Tom graduated from Boston University and was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers. He served in the Vietnam war, achieving the rank of Captain, and has always been a proud veteran. He later worked as a regional manager for Shell Oil Company before deciding to venture into the real estate business and was a managing broker at Weichert Realtors in Woodbridge, Virginia for 20 years. Tom was a mentor to many realtors and loved sharing his knowledge and wisdom with his mentees. He was a Corvette aficionado, but he also loved the water as some of his greatest days were spent cruising the St. John's River on his boat, Windward. Upon retirement, he moved to Clermont, Florida and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and cruising with Disney Cruise Line. He was thrilled to reach the level of "Platinum Castaway Club" member in September 2021 with his tenth cruise.

Tom had an amazing green thumb and was always happy to share his flower garden treasures, including roses, hibiscus, and birds of paradise, as well as various citrus fruits. He did not know a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. A lover of all dogs and animals in general, we envision a heavenly reunion with his many beloved pets that were waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to K9s for Warriors , an organization that places service dogs with disabled veterans, thereby encompassing two of his greatest passions.
A celebration of Tom's life is planned for early 2022.
