Susie Ardis Brown was born July 11, 1933, in Pinewood SC to the late Lee and Susie Ardis.  Susie went to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, June 11 th , 2022.

Susie was the youngest of seven children.  She met Ben Brown, Jr and fell in love in her late 20's.  They were happily married for 63+ years when Ben passed away in January 2021.  Ben and Susie were always together and were most often referred to as a unit – their love was strong.

Susie was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Durham NC for 50+ years.  She served in many roles within the church from Sunday School teacher to the littlest to Youth Chaperone to working with the Joy Club.  She was an active participant for many years in the Agape Sunday School Class and the Ruth Bible Class.  She loved to minister to those that could not attend church through cards, visits and calls. Susie had the uncanny ability to sense those in a crowd that might need a little extra love and was always quick to share a smile. She had a huge heart for children and ministered to many during her years at Holt Elementary School by lending a listening ear.

Susie loved her family and always treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, Savanna and Cameron.  She was her happiest when the entire family was together, seated around the dinner table, laughing and building memories.  She loved the holidays and would always show up early to spend time with her family ladened with gifts and most importantly her pecan pies and peanut brittle!  She was a true southern woman that loved to feed you – both physically and spiritually.

Susie is survived by her daughter Susan McDowell (husband Mitch), her granddaughter Savanna and her husband Miguel, and her grandson Cameron along with special nieces Carol Shirah, Beverly Ardis and great niece Tracy Moniz.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 9 th at 11AM at Becker Funeral Home.  The family will receive guests after at Susan and Mitch's home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Susie's memory to Give Kids the World .
