Steven Joseph Saelg, 40, of Clermont, FL passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Steven was born on January 9, 1974 in Neptune, NJ, the son of Walter and Josephine (nee Dimesa) Saelg.









Steven started in the finance industry before exploring his passion in the culinary arts. A 2005 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, he honed his skills working alongside notable chefs in restaurants such as the Tavern on the Green in New York City, and then in Orlando's K Restaurant and Wine Bar and the Citrus Club.



In 2010 Chef Saelg made the decision to steer into the food truck race and pioneered the Orlando food truck scene by creating The Crooked Spoon. After three years on the road Chef Saelg decided to hang up his truck keys and fulfill a longtime dream and new era for The Crooked Spoon brand. In August of 2013 he opened the doors to a full-service gastro pub in Clermont.







Steven was very active in the Clermont community and was a member of the Real Life Christian Church.







Steven is survived by his loving wife, Becca; children, Makaela A. Stone and Chase A. Saelg both of Winter Springs, FL and Jackson E. Saelg and Julia C. Saelg both of Clermont; his parents, Walter and Joanne Saelg of St. Cloud, FL; siblings, Chuck (Denise) Kennedy of Lakeland, FL, Carlene (Rita) Saelg of Dallas, TX, Gina (John) Cohl of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Stacey (Victor) Huryn of Clermont and Tracey Guerrero of Kissimmee, FL. He is also survived by his father and mother in law, Ed and Donna Kunc of Clermont.







A Celebration of Steven's life will be held at 11AM Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Real Life Christian Church, 1501 Steve's Rd., Clermont, FL 34711.
