Stephen (Steve) Nicholas D'Amico, 68, of Clermont, Florida passed away on January 18, 2021, after battling long-term health issues.
Steve was born on October 7, 1952 to Archangelo (Archie) Guitano and Electra Betty (Kapernaros) D'Amico in Manhattan, New York. Steve spent his childhood in Jericho, New York and after living in Biloxi, Mississippi, his family moved to Lebanon, Illinois where he would go on to graduate high school.
Following graduation, he attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois and played on their baseball team. During this time, he became a member of the FEROX (Phi Rho Chi) fraternity and made many lifelong friends. He continued his studies at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Following his college years, Steve moved to Florida, and worked in various locations managing fast food restaurants. In 1995, he started working in insurance and financial services, which would become his career. In 2003, he started D'Amico and Associates, Inc., serving the insurance and investment needs of Clermont, Florida. He was a natural-born salesman and thrived in his work. In 2004, he fought and won a life-threatening battle with stage 4 throat cancer.
Steve had a passion for most sports, including baseball umpiring and basketball refereeing, coaching little league baseball and softball. He was also extensively involved with the Clermont Chamber of Commerce and served as an ambassador for many years.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 36 years, Andrea of Clermont, Florida; daughter Jessica Welker and her husband Aaron of Austin, Texas; son Alex Austin, T exas; and daughter Grace Perez and her husband EJ of Pensacola, Florida; 2 grandchildren, Eliana and Remington Welker; brother Michael Charles D'Amico of Troy, Michigan, brother Paul D'Amico of Piedmont, Missouri; and brother David D'Amico of Jupiter, Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Archangelo G. and Electra B. (Kapernaros) D'Amico.
A public open house visitation and remembrance will be held at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, FL from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. A private graveside service will be held on January 21, 2021. Cards may be sent to his office at 223 Citrus Tower Blvd, Clermont, FL 34711.
