Simon held a variety of jobs to provide for himself and his family, initially working in the hotel industry, area factories, and real estate. Although not formally educated in any trade he was able to develop the needed skills in plumbing, electrical, and home improvement to successfully maintain and manage a number of apartment dwellings in the Hartford area. There was no task that he was unwilling to tackle. He was a "tinkerer", loving to work on fixing items in need of repair. He worked tirelessly in his early years to fulfill the American Dream. Simon was active in his local community as a member and Past Commander in the Catholic War Veterans and French American Club. He was active in the Democratic Party and ran for Ward Chairman in the early 1960's.
In the early 1980's Simon relocated to the Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood Florida area, spending his winters in the Sunshine State. He would permanently settle in 1985 in Hollywood, FL where he remained active in the Richelieu fraternal organization. He continued to serve at election polling sites and as an usher at his local church for many years. He remained very active during the winter season when many French Canadians would come to the Hollywood / Hallandale area in search of a warmer climate. Simon remained socially active enjoying dancing, music and playing cribbage. He was a regular attendee at the musical events at Hollywood Beach and dances in Hallandale. Remaining physically fit was incorporated into his daily lifestyle. He was an avid walker and enjoyed his walks around the golf course to collect golf balls which he would later give to his friends. Simon moved to the Clermont area 3 years ago to be closer to his daughter, Linda. He would later move into assisted living where he continued to be active walking and developing a new skill in playing bingo. He was a quiet man who in his later life appreciated the simple pleasures of life and the love of his family.
