IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ann
Dann
May 8, 1935 – February 12, 2026
Shirley Ann (Main) Dann, lovingly known as “Nino” to her grandchildren, family, and close friends, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and deep devotion to those she loved.
Born on May 8, 1935, in Bethel, Connecticut, to the late John M. and Edwina (Carr) Main, Shirley was a proud lifelong resident of Bethel and a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Bethel. In her later years, she was lovingly cared for by the compassionate staff at Hunt Trace Residences of Clermont, Lakeside Memory Care.
A 1953 graduate of Bethel High School, Shirley continued her education at the Grace (Yale) New Haven School of Nursing, answering a lifelong calling to care for others. She dedicated 25 years to Danbury Hospital as an Operating Room nurse. Even after her retirement, her passion for nursing remained strong as she served as a beloved school nurse at Ralph M.T. Johnson Elementary School and later at Anna H. Rockwell School in Bethel. Shirley truly cherished her work with children and her service to the Bethel community.
Above all, Nino treasured her family. She was a devoted grandmother to Katie Dann, Ryan Dann (Grayce), Heather Dann (Chris Cole), Zachary Dann (Jessica), Julia Curto (Anthony), and Jack Richter, and a proud great-grandmother to Olivia, Annabelle, Matthew, Eleanor, Franklynn, Owen, and Jackson.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, John (“Jack”) T. Dann Sr., and her brothers, John M. Main and James A. Main. She is survived by her children: John and Susan Dann of Bluffton, South Carolina; Larry and Robin Dann of New Milford, Connecticut; and Betsy (Dann) and Frank Richter of Groveland, Florida. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Barbara (Kirk) Dann, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Shirley will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and the loving care she so freely gave throughout her life.
