Obituary

Sharon Ann Haywood, born on March 24, 1938 passed away at the Clermont South Lake Hospital on December 27, 2024. Sharon was born and grew up in Menominee, MI which inspired her life-long love for the Upper Peninsula and the Green Bay Packers. Sharon was educated as a nurse at St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria, IL which was a perfect match for her nurturing and compassionate personality. She joined the Air Force to see the world. Her travels as a flight nurse in the Air Force took her all over, but primarily to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Sharon rose quickly in the Air Force to the rank of Captain, due to her nursing skills, outgoing nature, and incredible ability to get things done. Sharon met the love of her life in Okinawa, Japan in 1968. She married Andy Haywood, an Air Force navigator that year, and subsequently left the Air Force. For the rest of her life, she was an exemplary wife, mother and homemaker. She was active in every community that she ever lived in, either in the local Catholic Church, charitable organizations like the Red Cross or through various clubs and organizations. She made friends everywhere she went and never met a stranger. In her later years she traveled extensively all over the globe. She had an insatiable interest in history and genealogy and could often be found doing research for a friend or relative. Sharon is survived by her husband, Andy and her two children, Michael (Victoria) and Beth (David). Sharon leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship. She will be deeply missed. She will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in a private ceremony. The family asks for donations to The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
