IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shannon Norene
Alice Howell
August 16, 1952 – July 27, 2023
Shannon Howell, loving wife of Robert Howell of Davenport, FL USA, passed away peacefully under sedation today 07/27/2023 at 1:50 pm at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, FL.
Shannon was born in Batavia, New York, on 08/16/1952 to Fred and Elizabeth (Betty) Pixley. After almost 71 years, her lifelong struggle against the debilitating End Stage Renal Disease is finally over. It took 51 years for the disease to overcome her. In that time, she managed to live a fruitful and uplifting life aided by her strong and abiding bond with God
Shannon is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob), her two sons, Daniel with wife Samantha, two young grandsons Ander 6 and Kieran 18 months, and Christopher and his fiance, Sarah, her brother George and his wife Meredith, nieces Erin and Kelly and their Children. Forgive me, remembering the names of all the children is not my strong point.
Shannon suffered from End Stage Renal Disease for all of her adult life and she challenged the dialysis record books for 51 years with her fierce determination not to let the condition stop her from living her life and adopting and raising 2 beautiful Korean baby boys to manhood. Daniel, the eldest son has just completed his PHD and is undertaking teaching duties at the University of Central Florida and Christopher, the youngest son is a Captionist for the deaf at the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York. Shannon was most proud of her boys including her grandsons but complained that she never saw enough of them.
In addition to adopting the boys, Shannon underwent two successful kidney transplants and studied for and became a nurse in the Cardiology and Respiratory field at a local Rochester Hospital. She had a successful career for some years but ultimately her nursing career was cut short because her weakened immune system put her at high risk of infection.
After her second transplant finally died, she re-commenced Hemodialysis in 2008 and remained on her 3 times a week treatment until her passing. She was very proud of the fact that, during those 51 years, she never once missed a dialysis treatment.
Unfortunately, Shannon suffered many medical crises during her lifetime. None more serious than a perforated colon in 2010, which kept her in hospital in ICU in critical condition for many months. She was very close to dying in the early stages of hospitalization. All in all, she was 6 months away from home and at times her condition bordered on touch and go. However, her strong will to live and her absolute faith in God and the dedication, professionalism and expertise of the numerous members of the medical profession, brought her through all the trials and tribulations and back to family and friends.
She met Bob online in September 2000 and they were married on June 2, 2001. She traveled with Bob to Australia a few times and met his family and enjoyed the Australian cities, towns and countryside, the people and their ways of life.
They settled in Florida in 2008. Bob is remaining in Florida, for the time being.
Shannon will be sadly missed by both family and friends and she will forever be in our hearts.
RIP Shannon.
