IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Salmon Cornelius
Van Rooyen
August 15, 1954 – August 11, 2020
Uniondale, RSA – Salmon Cornelius van Rooyen, 65, of Uniondale, South Africa went to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday August 11, 2020 at Cornerstone Hospice ORMC. He was born on August 15, 1954 in Wittedrift, RSA. He moved to Hanover for a few years and then moved to Frans Station where he met his bride.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Annelize of Leesburg, FL; son, Dajhan (Stephanie) van Rooyen of Clermont, FL: brother, Daniel Johannes (Linda Marie) van Rooyen; sister, Lettie (Johan) Smith; two grandchildren, Amber and Cornelius and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daan and Bessie van Rooyen; Brothers, William and Sass; and precious daughter Elmari.
Neels spent 62 years in South Africa, where he worked on the railroads for 25 years before retiring. His life revolved around sports (Go Springboks), listening to the radio, spending time with family and friends and his dogs. He was best known for his positive attitude, and always making jokes and cheering up everyone around him. He was seen by many as a father figure due to his worldly advice, joyous spirit and love for the Lord.
In January 2016, Neels and Annelize moved to the United States to be closer to their son and grandchildren. His days were spent with a grandkid on his lap, fishing pole in his hand and always a smile on his face. Playing with his dog, Ruger was a daily joy.
Special thanks to his guardian angel and caretaker, Annelize. Words cannot explain how much he loved and appreciated you every day. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday August 26, 2020 at Hope International Church, 13806 State Road 33, Groveland, FL at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Grace Medical Home online at www.gracemedicalhome.org.
