Roger Reed Spears passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Clermont, Florida, at the age of 72. Rog to his closest family and friends, was born on September 20, 1953, in Wheeling, West Virginia. Roger was the son of Jean Cottrell Spears and grew up in a lively household alongside his siblings Harry, Barry, and Becky, forming close bonds that would last his lifetime.
Roger eventually found his way to Orlando, where he married his true love, Georgie (Dianna) Spears. Together, they built a life centered around family, laughter, and simple pleasures together. Roger was calm and steady with a profound impact on everyone. His warm, humorous and friendly nature drew people close, and he genuinely cared for everyone around him. He was a dedicated worker who retired after 36 years from Boise Cascade/Sonoco Products, an avid bicyclist, a dedicated fan of golf and tennis, loved to travel and believed in the power of 1 vote in every election. Some of his most cherished moments were quiet movie nights at home with Georgie, attending Plays, covering miles on his bike, including 17 years riding in the MS150 bike events for Multiple Sclerosis, the 2005 bike event GRABAAWR 481 miles across Wisconsin and sharing stories and time with family, friends and his grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years Georgie (Dianna) Spears, stepdaughter Jennifer Medlar; and his son Craig Spears (wife Katherine). His legacy lives on through his five grandchildren; Austin Spears, Colby Spears, Miles Spears, Neil Medlar, and Harper Medlar and his Godson's; Robert and Michael Ferber. Roger is also survived by his brothers, Harry Spears (wife Jill Sandersen) and Barry Spears (wife Virginia Spears), and his sister, Becky Griffin. Included are surviving Brother-in-law Daniel Dobbs and Sister-in-law Cathy Dobbs. He is fondly remembered by his nephews Brandon Spears, Colin Spears, Scott Griffin, Bradley Griffin, David Bock, Ray Dobbs and his nieces Caitlin Friedman, DeAnna Damasiewicz, Darlene Meade, Rose Searles, Shandra Lei Andrews and special friends Elisabeth Ferber and Michelle Wiseman.
A celebration of Rogers life will be held Saturday June 6th, 2026 at 2:30pm ET at the “South” Entrance of the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center, 3700 S. Hwy 27, Clermont, Florida 34711. The “Clermont Room”.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Gainesville, Florida at the Evergreen Cemetery, where he will remain in eternal peace alongside his beloved mother, Jean.
