Roger John Schafer of King's Ridge in Clermont, Florida passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:08 pm in the afternoon.  Roger was 91 years old.

He was born in Lansing, Michigan on November 4, 1929, to Norman and Bernice Schafer.   He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting and entered the United States Air Force immediately as an ROTC graduate.  He was promoted to 1 st Lieutenant when he became the Resident Auditor with a staff of accounting graduates at McGhee-Tyson Air Force Base in Knoxville, TN.  After completing his required two years of active duty, he passed the CPA exam and was employed by a national firm in Chicago, Illinois.

In 1955, he married Patricia Devereaux (Pat) in Lansing, Michigan.  Together they raised five children, all successfully graduating with university degrees.  In 1957 he and his family moved back to Lansing, Michigan where he became a partner with BDO Seidman CPA firm.  In 1976, he was transferred to BDO's Traverse City, Michigan office as the managing partner.  Roger retired in 1989 and they moved to Florida. After moving to Clermont, Florida, they became members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Roger contributed to his community in many ways.  He was President of the Lansing Jaycees, President of the Lansing Exchange Club, President of the Traverse City Country Club and a Director of the Traverse City Rotary Club.  Roger thoroughly enjoyed golf, bridge, travel and music.  He was a member of barbershop quartets in Florida for many years.

Roger was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Pat (2013), daughter, Cathy Schafer (1957), daughter, Peggy Schafer (2016), and brother Richard Schafer.  He is survived by son, Mike (Mary) Schafer, son, Mark (Joey Zimmerman) Schafer, daughter, Ann (Weldon) Warren, daughter, Becky (Jeff) Terrill, brother, Paul Schafer, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be: Monday, 12/21/20, at 11:00 am, Blessed Sacrament Church, Clermont, FL

Visitation will be: Sunday, 12/20/20, from 4:30-6:00 pm; Rosary at 5:00 pm

Burial will be: Monday, 12/21/20, at 1:30 pm, Florida National Cemetery
