Roger Marquard lived an amazing life.  He was a loving and devoted husband and father.  An American Hero, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired from the United States Air Force.  He was the past Commander of the Groveland-Mascotte American Legion Memorial Post 239.  Past president of the USAF 5th Communications Group who served with him in Korea.  Current officer of the Korean War Veterans Association, South Lake County Chapter #18.  Member of the Friends of the Air Force Museum Foundation.

All his life he put others before himself.  Serving his community was a priority, especially helping the needy and the youth.  He always said "the children are our future, we need to help them succeed and protect the environment for their future".  As a lifetime member of the North Carolina Zoological Society he hoped to preserve and protect wildlife from extinction so future generations could enjoy them.

He served his local community in many ways.  As Commander of the American Legion, he chartered Boy Scout Pack # 929.  He was on many advisory boards in Groveland and Mascotte.  He was a Finalist for the City Citizen of the Year 2008 Cities of Excellence Awards.

He was a member of the Friends of the Marion Baysinger Library, and the Groveland-Mascotte Garden Club.

His greatest joy was camping and traveling with his wife Mary.  They visited almost every state.  He was an avid photographer of wildlife and all the beauty of nature.

He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Rebecca, son John, step-children Mary, Maureen and Frank, and eight grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Donna, and many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by all.
