Roger L. Davis was born on December 3, 1937 in St. Augustine, Florida. He attended elementary schools in St. Augustine, and Hastings, Florida. Roger subsequently moved to Ashburn, Georgia, with his family where he attended middle school. In 1953, he moved to Beaver Falls, PA, to attend High School. Upon graduating from High School, Roger enrolled at Geneva College, in Beaver Falls, PA, where he graduated in 1960 with a BS degree in Business. In June 1960 Roger entered the U.S. Army. He was sent to the Army Intelligence School and subsequently assigned to Ft. Meade, Maryland.
In October 1960 Roger married Shirley McDonald, from Southfield, MI, who he had met while attending Geneva College. In 1962, after being discharged from the Army, Roger began his career as a Special Agent in the Office of Security and Counterintelligence with the National Security Agency (NSA) at Ft. Meade, MD, where he remained for 33 years. He and Shirley resided in Laurel, MD, for 41 years, except for their 3 year NSA assignment to Bad Aibling, Germany, during the period 1982-1985. Roger was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel, where he served as a Deacon, and interpreter for the deaf. Roger's hobbies included flying , Amateur (HAM) radio, running, bicycling, and motorcycles. He was an Extra Class HAM radio operator with the callsign: W3LM. He became a Flight Instructor in 1974 and enjoyed teaching part-time for several years. After retirement from NSA he taught communications part-time at the Maritime Institute of Technology in Baltimore, MD. An active runner and bicyclist, Roger completed 15 marathons and seven Ultra 50 Mile runs during the 70's, 80's and 90's. In 1996 Roger bicycled across the USA, and did numerous other across State rides after that. In 2001 he and Shirley retired to Clermont, FL, to be closer to their children. In his later life, Roger continued to ride bicycles, motor scooters and motorcycles across the USA. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Clermont, FL, where he also served as a Deacon. Roger and Shirley had two children, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, a daughter Julie Cashion, Sanford, FL, a son Christopher Davis, Birmingham, AL, nine grandchildren; Camden, Everette and Axley of Birmingham, AL, Zachary of Lake Mary, FL, Matthew of Winter Park, FL, and Emily, Katie, Amy and Anna of Sanford, FL, and five great grandchildren; Kody of Winter Park, FL, Levi, Lilly, and Judah of Lake Mary, FL, and Finley of Sanford, FL.
