Rochelle "Shelly" Zarro
1946-2018
Clermont, FL – Rochelle "Shelly" Zarro, 72, Clermont, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2018 at Serenades in Winter Garden. She was born March 23, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York daughter of Sidney & Lillian Scolnick. Shelly graduated from Brentwood High School in 1963. She went on to attend and graduate from the State University of New York, College at New Paltz, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1967 and then from Queens College with a Masters in Education. She embarked on her 34-year career in the Northport-East Northport School District in 1968. During that time frame she worked as elementary teacher in second, fourth and sixth grades before becoming a computer specialist who was instrumental in introducing computer technology into the classrooms.
Shelly met her husband, Joe Zarro of the Bronx, in 1977. They married in 1980, moved to Eastport, Long Island in 1988 and Clermont, Florida in 2002. She was an avid reader and loved boating, dancing and traveling with Joe until her diagnosis with Alzheimer's Disease. She was an active member of several civic organizations and clubs, including the Red Hatters of Summit Greens, the Women's Club of Summit Greens, the CIAO Club and the Order Sons of Italy in America John Mastroianni Lodge #2784. She was preceded by a brother, David, killed in action in Vietnam in 1969.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, a sister, Jill (Robert) Scheiber, a niece, Danielle, a nephew, Luke, and a stepson, Joseph N. Zarro.
She is interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings on Hudson, New York. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to the Alzheimer's Association (https://alz.org/). Online guest book at beckerfamilyfuneral.com.
