Born to parents Robert B and Eileen (Gallagher) Saunderson. The oldest of 4 children
growing up in Westbury NY. Rob attended St. Brigid's Parish School and was active in the church as an Altar Boy and CYO Athlete. He player Little League Baseball and was named to The All Star Team for his aggressive play as Catcher.
After grade school Rob attended Chaminade HS in Mineola playing football and was part of
The Glee Club when they performed at The 1964 Worlds Fair in Flushing NY.
1965 began Rob's college career at St. Bonaventure University in Olean NY majoring in
History. Rob excelled in his Academics achieving his place on The Dean's List throughout
his 4 years. Rob's other achievements included joining his fraternity, participating in the
University's ROTC Program and earning honors as part of the elite Pershing Rifles Team.
Upon graduating in 1969 from St. Bonnie's Rob attended St. Johns Law School in Brooklyn.
He commuted daily on The LIRR on the same line he had worked summer jobs in The Bar
Car.
Graduation from Law Scool came in 1972, the same year he passed The NYS Bar and was
sworn in as an attorney. 1973 brought his best achievement to that point when he married his wife of 52 years Elizabeth (Wagner).
Rob's crowning achievement came in 1975 when they welcomed Robert Buchanan II to
complete their little family. They bought their 1st home in Coram NY.
In 1989 they purchased a larger home in Ridge NY complete with an inground pool where so
many celebrations and memories were made. Rob much to Elizabeth's dismay shared his passion for sports with Robby rooting for The NY Mets, NY Jets, Notre Dame football and their beloved NY Islanders. They enjoyed many seasons as Season Ticket Holders at the Nassau Coliseum. Robby will continue those passions, rooting as hard as it is for their favorite teams. Many happy memories were made when Rob coached Robby and other players with All Island Handicapped Sports allowing them to participate in tournaments, games, clinics and ultimately The NY STATE Games for the Physically Challenged, an event held yearly over 4 days at Mitchell Field NY.
After 40 years practicing Law on LI, Rob retired in 2012 as a Senior Staff Attorney for The
Hartford. Rob made many friendships that he continued long after retirement.
The family retired to Clermont, FL not too far from their Happy Place, Disney.
Rob was predeceased in life by brothers Barry K and William T.
Left behind is his wife Elizabeth (Liz), son Robert B (Robby), sister Julia C Lancaster(Dave),
sister-in-law Kathleen Wagner, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The National Kidney
Foundation in his memory.
