Richard Thomas Corrado, age 80, of Maitland, Florida passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016. A native of Flushing, New York, Richard attended Cathedral Prep in Brooklyn and graduated from St. John's University in Flushing. He received his Master's Degree from Tulane University and his Doctorate in Education from the University of Florida.
His professional career in education began as a high school English and Latin teacher and as an assistant principal at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. Richard soon became nationally recognized as an outstanding leader and innovator in Catholic education. As the first layman ever appointed as Superintendent of Catholic Schools, he served in that position in the Diocese of Orlando and in the Archdioceses of New Orleans, LA, Newark, NJ and Milwaukee, WI.
Richard also held executive positions with Catholic Educational Resources and Grolier Educational Services, rounding out his 50 years of service to the education of young people.
An accomplished high school and collegiate athlete, an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan and lifelong sports enthusiast, Richard founded Southern Scouting Agency. Having scouted over 150 college and professional teams annually, it earned the distinction as the largest independent basketball scouting service in the country.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife of 29 years, the former Gail Ann Rutledge, and his parents, Anthony and Mary Corrado. He is survived by his three daughters, Dawn (Jim) Ludwig, Eve McKechnie, and Erin (Lance) Young, four grandchildren, James and Brenton Ludwig and Christina and Jennifer McKechnie, siblings Margaret (Gerard) Shea, Donald (Margaret) Corrado, and Very Reverend Dennis M. Corrado as well as many nieces and nephews
