Obituary

Rick is celebrating eternity in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Born in Chicago, IL, Rick spent his formative years in Elmira, NY.
In 1967, Rick moved to Miami, FL where he joined the Miami Police Department. He retired in 1991, having achieved the rank of lieutenant.
A career move took him to Lady Lake, FL, where he served as Chief of Police for 2 1/2 years implementing policies that are in place today.  He was prominent in the existence of  the golf cart, 441 cross-over bridge and was the first to suggest ID cards for Village residence.
Academically motivated, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University, Miami, FL.
In 1997, Rick signed on with OSCE, a contractor for the UN.  He worked for six years in Bosnia and Croatia training police recruits after the ethnically rooted Bosnia conflict of 1992 -1995.  During his tenure, he encouraged community policing, a radical concept to the locals so heavily divided by ethnic prejudice.
A voracious reader of history and novels, he was a fan of any sport involving a ball..especially golf. He assisted with the lst Academy, Leesburg, golf team,  worked security for six years at First Baptist Church, Leesburg, and coached the church softball team.
Rick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Esther, his son, Jeffrey (Kim), who served in the US Air Force earning the rank of Lt. Col. Daughter-of-the-heart, Shondra Orobitg (Eddie) was a loving example of God's Grace in gifting extended family.  The grandchildren were his pride and joy: Angela Achon, Ryan and Tristan Colpitts, Ethan, Shelby and Trevor Orobitg. One great-grandson, Anthony Eppley. He delighted in each of their achievements in sports and academics.  His greatest joy was being with them whenever possible.
His was blessed with a life well lived - family and life long friends who loved him and meant the world to him. He will be missed.
Psalm 34:10  The lions grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
