Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Pedro, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed on August 30, 2020 while sleeping peacefully at his residence in Florida after a six-month illness. He was in his 92nd year.

Pedro was the beloved husband of Rosa, loving father of Pedro (Sonia) and Jimmy (Susan), and proud grandfather of Emily, Layla, David, and Sylvia.

Born in Ecuador, Pedro left his family at a very young age to explore the world. In 1968, Pedro married Rosa, and shortly thereafter, they moved to New York City to pursue the American Dream.

He loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, loved to people watch, and was a highly skilled checkers player. His game consisted of tortuously taking apart each of his opponents with keen game vision and pinpoint precision moves. Some often wondered how great a chess player he would be if he ever learned the game. Pedro also loved to watch sports, particularly soccer and baseball.

Rosa remembers Pedro's extreme care for her. His biggest fear was that he'd have to live without her. He also feared how she would be taken care of if he ever passed first. In his final days, Pedro constantly asked his children to please care for her as he knew he could no longer do so. They nodded their heads each time reassuring him that his best friend would always be in good hands.

One of the fondest childhood memories Pedro and Jimmy had was the summer tradition the three shared in the late 70's to early 80's. The tradition included catching a matinee martial arts or James Bond film, followed by a trip to Kentucky Fried Chicken for a tasty lunch. He would also take them around the city to enjoy all the wonderful things New York had to offer.

His grandchildren remember him as "Abuelito," someone they could always count on for smiles and loving gestures.

A viewing will be held between 6pm and 8pm on Friday, September 4 th , at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, FL. Funeral service is scheduled at 11am on Saturday, September 5 th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, also in Clermont, FL.
