Dr. Paul Palmer Bethune October 12, 1924 - August 19, 2016
A longtime resident of Florida, Paul was born in Homestead, PA. He joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. At the end of the war he attended, and graduated from, Thiel College. While there, he met and married Elizabeth Boylan. Paul received his Masters from FSU where he was a professor. He was also head of the science dept. at the FSU Demonstration School. He was recruited to develop an experimental science program and facilities at Nova High School in Davie FL. He received his Doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. Paul was the Broward County Supervisor for Science Education K-12. Paul and Elizabeth retired and moved to central FL to build their home. Paul was on the environmental planning committee for Lake County. He was an original member of the Eustis Gun Club. He is loved and missed by Elizabeth, his wife of 68 years, his two daughters, Anne Overton and Jeanne Edgeman, and his grandson Ronald Edgeman, all residing in central FL.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Becker Funeral Home in Clermont, Fl.
Paul will be interred at the National Cemetery in Bushnell on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM with US Navy honors. (The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 AM). Friends and family are welcome at the family home on Friday from 4-6 PM)
