Obituary

Octavio Ernest Flores Jr., age 73, was called from his earthly duties to begin his heavenly duties on January 28, 2019. He was born to Octavio Ernest Flores Sr. and Roxie Chapman Flores on November 28, 1945. He attended LaJoya High School and was Salutatorian of his high school class of 1963. He attended Pan American College and received his BA in business administration with a focus on accounting in 1967. He then enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict. As a sailor, he was on the USS America, CVA-66, one of the largest super carriers built for the Navy. His ship was positioned off the shores of Vietnam and was intensely active during the war. He received an honorable discharge and returned to civilian life in 1971.
Ernie was always active in his daughters' lives. He coached their softball teams and acted as treasurer of the Chesterfield Little League. He was also an active firefighter with the Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Department and he took his daughters there often to see the fire trucks. He loved taking his daughters to different events and places, including Cincinnati Reds baseball games, history museums, and state and national parks. He was passionate about living life to the fullest. He enjoyed dancing, music, art, history and never had a dull moment in his life. He was married to Pauline Daniels Flores for over 25 years and he cared for her until she passed away in March 2018. During their time in Florida, after his retirement from General Motors, he went on to work for Disney in Orlando in which he held many different positions, from dancing as Buzz Lightyear to later moving on to the security force. He was active in the church he and Polly attended, The First Methodist Church in Clermont, Florida which he attended every Sunday. In Clermont, he was also devoted to volunteer work. He volunteered at the local schoolhouse library, he delivered food to the elderly and disabled with Anointed Community Services and he took care of a special friend named Tommy who suffers from Alzheimer's. He continued to travel to visit his daughters and had recently drove to Ft. Sill Army base to pick up his grandson, USMC Private 1st Class Andrew Tiffin, for Thanksgiving leave and drove him home to Amarillo, Texas to visit his eldest daughter and family. He is extremely missed by the many lives he touched throughout his life. So many people expressed their grief and talked about his good works and his beautiful smile that always lit up the room.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Billy Flores, and his wife Pauline Flores. He is survived by his daughters and their families, Jennifer Flores Matteson and her husband Jeff Matteson and two grandchildren, Andrew Tiffin and Sarah Tiffin, Carla Flores, and Sara Flores Aminzadeh and her husband Hossein Aminzadeh and their two dog children Nini and Dominic, his sisters Melissa Flores, Rebecca Mathis and her husband Jim, and nephew Marco Arredondo and niece Monica Arredondo Wolfe, and nephew Benjamin Flores, son of Billy Flores.

His remains will be buried at a later date next to his mother, father, and brother at the Los Ebanos Cemetery in Los Ebanos, Texas.

The family thanks those who sent flowers and lent their prayers and support during their time of grieving. The family wishes to add that if you would like to contribute in Ernie's honor, donations would be greatly honored at www.anointedcs.org. Ernie devoted much of his time volunteering for Anointed Community Services, a nonprofit organization located in Clermont, Florida and attended bible study there as well.
