Norma Mason Barney
Norma Mason Barney went home to be with her Savior on September 23, 2018. She was born on February 7, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Norma was the daughter of Ellsworth and Ethel Pearson. Her dad followed in the steps of his dad as a Swedish carpenter building homes and building their church. She was a gifted musician, becoming the church organist at twelve years of age. She loved the great hymns of the faith. Throughout life she encouraged others through her musical gifts, ministry of prayer and words of encouragement. While she was in high school, she responded to an invitation to trust Christ alone for the forgiveness of her sins. Her life reflected the love of Christ in service toward others.
Norma graduated from Rhode Island State College where she majored in Elementary Education. There she met Robert Mason at the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship whom she married on August 9, 1952. Together they had six children. She was a teacher in Warwick for one year and then they moved to Connecticut where Bob taught Math for 25 years at Bloomfield High School and she taught in various settings. She earned her Master's in Education at University of Hartford. She became the first health education teacher in Connecticut.
She was a member of Calvary Church in Hartford and Wintonbury Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
Norma was predeceased by her first husband (of 43 years) Robert Prescott Mason, his twin brother, Ralph Preston Mason (Martha) and her sister, Ruth Hoog (Winton).
Norma married John A. Barney on January 24, 2004. She and John moved to Minneola, Florida full time in 2012 to the Africa Inland Mission Retirement Center. She accompanied John in worship music. They ministered to others by playing and singing at church, the mission and in nursing homes.  "The joy of the Lord was her strength" was a theme of her life of service to others.
Norma loved her family of six children, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren–Robert Paul (Karen), Ralph Peter (Rhonda), Ruth Priscilla Masterson (Robert), Roy Philip (Suzanne), Roger Prescott (Judy), and Richard Preston (Pamela). She lovingly embraced and prayed for all of John's children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She prayed anytime, for anyone, anywhere for any situation. She recognized God's presence and power through prayer!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Africa Inland Mission, where John and Norma spent their retirement, or her home church, Wintonbury Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
