IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Neldon Lynn
Jarvis
November 16, 1931 – April 18, 2021
Neldon Lynn Jarvis, 89, of Clermont, FL, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 18, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Ned was beloved by family, friends, coworkers and all who met him. His gentle, warm personality quickly made friends of everyone he met. Ned grew up in a depression era middle class family close to the mountains of central Utah. From an early age he loved the outdoors and adventure, spending as much time as possible in nature. His family will always cherish memories of long road trips to national parks and historical sites. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of leadership positions, with a special love for genealogy and family history.
After earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry at Brigham Young University he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served at Letterman Hospital assisting with the rehabilitation of amputees. Upon his discharge Ned completed a PhD in Chemistry at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He then found employment at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., where he would work well into normal retirement years. His skill as a quick and creative scientist, and his reputation as an open and encouraging mentor made his department one sought after by many bright, younger minds. Never one to retire, after leaving NRL Ned formed businesses, obtained patents for an assortment of chemical sensors, and manufactured them for a variety of uses.
Ned is predeceased by his parents, Neldon Lavon Jarvis and Arlene Oliver, and by his sister Carolyn Jarvis Petersen. He is survived by his wife, Nina Kay Randall, his brother William, his children Hilary (Crowley), Lori (Seamands) Ned, Suzanne (Rigby), Mary (Lawrence), Virginia (Formant) and Owen, his stepsons Bruce Drysdale and James Drysdale, 27 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont, FL at 9:30 AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
