Michel "Mickey" Charles Durand passed away in his sleep the evening of Thursday, February 19, 2015, after a six-month battle with liver cancer. Born March 19, 1942 in Fauroux, France, Mickey devoted 20 years to the French Navy, and retired as Major Detector-Submarine (DSM) Helicopter Aero Naval. In 1978, he immigrated with his wife and son to the United States, and settled in the Atlanta, Georgia area. He established himself as a lively maître d' at the Atlanta Athletic Club for 11 years, and helped open and run Maison Chic, a successful Norcross boutique, with his wife. Wanting to retire, he and his wife relocated to Clermont, FL in 1996, where he flourished as a wine consultant. His passions included fine wine, cutting-edge technology, and living "the good life" in general. He was quick to share a story, tell a joke, and say what was on his mind, and left a lasting impression with everyone he encountered. He is survived by: - His wife, Suzanne - Children: Frederique (her husband Jean); Dominique (her husband Christian); Reynald (his wife Lulu) - Grandchildren: Manon; Virginie (her husband Bernard); Gregory (his wife Julie); Candice (her fiance Stephane); Floriane (her fiance Guillaume); Didianne (her husband Joseph) - Great Grandchildren: Maelle, Alicia, Noa, Kim, Ambre, Gaspard, Hoel - Siblings: Nicole; Yves (his wife Inga); Monique; sister-in-law Annie - Countless nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends He was preceded by his brother Bernard, and son Frederic.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, February26, 2015 at Becker Funeral Home (806 West Minneola Avenue, Clermont, FL 34712) at 2PM.
