IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melissa Ann
Ciolina
June 9, 1975 – July 7, 2025
Melissa Ciolina, 50, of Connecticut, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 9, 1975, in Waterbury, CT, she was the oldest of four children born to Joseph and Linda Vaichus.
Melissa grew up in Watertown, where she attended local schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1993. She continued her education at Naugatuck Valley Community College, earning her degree as a Radiology Technician with a specialization in MRI.
Before college, Melissa followed her heart into ministry, graduating from Youth With a Mission in Riverside, California. Her calling led her to serve as a missionary in Los Angeles, Ukraine, and Russia. These early years of service reflected the compassion and selflessness that would define her life.
In 2008, Melissa met the love of her life, Chris Ciolina. They married in May 2009 and soon built their first home together in Franklinton, North Carolina. Their greatest joy came with the birth of their son, Jonathan, in 2010. Jonny became the light of her life. During these years, Melissa devoted herself to being a homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family.
In 2013, the family returned to Connecticut to be closer to relatives. It was there that Melissa and Chris began fostering children, eventually opening their home and hearts to nearly 20 children over the years. In 2019, they adopted their daughter, Madilyn Faith, at birth, a moment that brought profound joy to Melissa's life.
Melissa was known for her generous heart, her fierce devotion to her family, and her ability to create a home that radiated comfort and acceptance. She had a lifelong love for softball and basketball and was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox. She could rattle off stats and scores with the knowledge of a seasoned sports commentator.
Melissa is survived by her beloved husband, Christopher Ciolina; their cherished children, Jonathan and Madilyn; and her siblings, Elizabeth, Timothy, and David. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Linda Vaichus.
Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness, patience, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
