Mary Lois Holman, 93, of Clermont, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 4, 2024. On 6/3/1931 in Elizabethton, Tennessee, Walter, and Verna Carlton were blessed with a baby girl, Mary. Mary grew up in Lenoir North Carolina and was a star basketball player at Gamewell High School. At the age of seventeen on Christmas Eve, 1948, married Dwight Turner Holman. In 1952 they moved to Newport News, Virginia where Dwight was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock company. Mary worked in retail and owned her own shoe store, "House of Shoes." Mary loved the Lord and her church. She faithfully served in ladies ministries and raising money for the church. Her favorite hobby was ceramics. She loved her daughter, Patty, and was very protective of her.
After retirement Mary and Dwight moved to Clermont, Florida in1992 where she worked part time at Belk Department Store. Mary loved to plant and take care of her many flowers and had Dwight plant her forty-seven crepe myrtles on their property. Her daughter, granddaughter, and great grandsons were the love of her life. Mary was extremely outgoing, outspoken, and a friend to many. She will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Mary was proceeded in death by her father Walter P. Carlton, mother Verna M. Carlton, brother, John Henry Coker, sister, Trula M. Cannon < husband, Dwight Turner Holman. She is survived by her daughter Patty Jean Cary (Ernie), granddaughter, Nicole Dawn Barnett (Reese), great grandsons, Chandler Barnett, and Carson Barnett.
