Obituary

Mario was born in Philadelphia on April 30, 1938 to Marion and Josephine Gelovich. As a teenager, he enrolled in the seminary, with dreams of serving God. However, the Lord has different plans for him and he met the love of his life, MaryAnn Clay. The two would marry and start a family. Mario joined the Philadelphia Police Department, where he spent over 40 years, quickly rising through the ranks. He eventually became the director of the Research and Planning Department and served as the right-hand man of the police commissioners whom he served with. At the time of his retirement in 1998, he had attained the rank of police captain.
He and MaryAnn moved to Florida in 2003, where he rekindled his love for God's work, serving as a deacon. When God called MaryAnn to be with him in 2012, Mario dedicated the remainder of his life to serving the Lord. He was ordained a priest February 23, 2014 and he eventually rose to the title of Monsignor, where he served the community of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, finding particular joy in working with the children of the parish.
Mario was called back to God on Friday, August 28th, 2020, where he was surely reunited with his beloved MaryAnn.
Mario is survived by: his son Michael, 63, and his daughters Amanda, Alexandra, and Deanna; his daughter June, 61, and her daughters Angela, Stephanie, and Sarah; and his son Stephen 51, and daughter-in-law Valerie, and their daughters Alyssa and Kayla.
