Marilyn Constance Grant
May 11, 1936 – August 11, 2024
Marilyn was born in Milwaukee, Wi on May 11, 1936 to Edmund and Emily Janowiak. She and her younger sister Kathy were raised in the proud Polish tradition on the south side of Milwaukee. Marilyn graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954. In 1960, she married Robert (Bob) Grant and about a year later welcomed their first son John. John was quickly followed by their second son Jay in 1962, and finally Jerome in 1963. Marilyn and Bob relocated to Racine, Wisconsin in 1965. With her hands full, Marilyn stayed home to take care of the boys until the last of her sons went off to school. Except for a short-term relocation to Brantford, Ontario in the 70s, Racine, WI was where she called home for most of her adult life.
Marilyn spent much of her career supporting the HR function and management team at the Racine Boston Store in Regency Mall. If you knew Marilyn, you know she loved the team around her -- and the employee discount! Marilyn and Bob retired to Clermont, Florida in 2008, which is where she spent the final years of her life.
Marilyn passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of August 11, 2024 at the Clermont Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clermont, Florida. The family would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to the center for the care and comfort they provided her over the nearly 15 years she spent in their care.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Bob Grant (2009) and son Jay Grant (2016) and is survived by her sons John Grant (Laurie) and Jerome Grant (Susan), as well as her sister Kathy Brau (Tony) and daughter-in-law Linda Grant. Marilyn was also blessed with, and survived by, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than time she spent with her family and friends. Her quick wit and what some would refer to a 'dry' sense of humor kept the entire family on their toes to the very end.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family members around the world who have reached out to share condolences. A private Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of life for Marilyn will be planned in the near future, as per her wishes. The family requests memorials in Marilyn's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org/ so that much needed research can continue in her honor.
