Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Weaver, 93, died peacefully at the Cornerstone Hospice House in Clermont on October 30, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.  Peggy was born in Taiku, Korea in 1927 where her parents were serving as missionaries.  She and her 6 brothers and sisters lived in Korea until 1940, at which time the family returned to the US and settled in Berkeley, CA.  This is where Peggy met and married Donald (Don) Weaver in 1949.  Peggy finished her degree in Nursing in Berkeley before she and Don moved to New York City so that Don could attend NYU and she could work as a nurse..  After  WWII ended and Don graduated, they moved to Germany to work for the Friends Service Committee, rebuilding neighborhoods that had been bombed out during the War.  Their first daughter, Joanne was born there in 1952.  They returned to The US, settling in Gallup, NM, where Don became the director of the Gallup Indian Community Center.  Peggy and Don had a son, Glen, in 1955, and a daughter, Carole, in 1957.

The family moved several more times, to Denver, CO, then Dubuque, Iowa, then to East Greenwich, RI. Over time, Peggy discovered her passion as a preschool teacher.  She completed her degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Rhode Island, graduating in 1977, the same year as her son, Glen.  Peggy taught preschool for many years before she and Don retired to Clermont, FL in 1992. Peggy and Don built two houses in the Clermont area, the last house overlooking Crescent Lake near daughter, Carole and her family. Peggy and Don enjoyed many summers at the family cabin in Maine, spending time with family and making many lasting friends there.

Peggy loved music and she had a special gift of being able to hear a song, sit down at the piano and play it.  She always loved a good puzzle and a good book. She would return from the library with a huge pile of books and more likely than not there was a jigsaw puzzle on the table. She didn't like working on puzzles by herself. It was her joy to sit with whomever and chat, so she would convince people to join her at the puzzle table and talk.  She could also just sing songs while doing the puzzle; many of the songs she made up on the spot or tunes she had sung to her children as they grew up.

Peggy and Don were happily married for 68 year before Don passed away in 2018.   Peggy's daughter Carole moved in with her to care for her, assisted every day by granddaughter Alyssa and great granddaughter, Calliope.

Peggy is survived by her children, Joanne Weaver (Kathy Borchers) of Seekonk, MA,  Glen ( Lisa) Weaver of Lafayette, CO, and Carole (Jamal, deceased) Badarni of Clermont, FL.  She is also survived by her sister, Anne Henderson of Needham, MA,   her sister, Deborah (Rik) Berryere of Vernon, VT, and her brother, David (Kathy ) Henderson of Swoope, VA.  She has 8 grandchildren, Megan (James Clontz), AJ (Courteney),  and Tarik (Alyssa) Badarni,  and Santo Bijarro, Drew, Ally, Chay and Garrett Weaver,  and 11  great grandchildren.  She leaves behind many good friends made over her 93 years.  We all will miss her kindness, positive outlook and beautiful smile.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mike Conley Cornerstone Hospice House, 2100 Oakley Seaver Dr., Clermont, FL 34711
