Luz Maria Cortez Moreno, 88 years of age, passed away peacefully on April 9th 2022, surrounded by her family.

Luz Maria was born November 26,1933 in Escalerias San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Trinidad and Ramona Moreno. She married the late Everardo Cortez in the 1950's, and raised their family in Tamaulipas MX. In 1973 they migrated to the United States. Both in their 40's and with 9 children began their new life and settled in Mascotte, Florida.

Although Luz Maria missed her parents and home country she grew to love and embrace her life in the states.

Luz Maria had a kind and generous heart,always willing to help anyone in need. Luz and her late husband Everardo were very active in their local community advocating for better working conditions for the migrant farmworkers. They both made significant contributions that continue to impact the local families in Central Florida.

Luz Maria was married to her husband Everardo for 61 years. She was a stay at home mom. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She also enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, knitting, cooking, sewing, volunteering, shopping and crafting.

Luz Maria had a flair for style, and lit up any room with her presence and warm smile. She would make new friends anywhere she went. Friends and family enjoyed her gift for spiritual guidance and life advice.

Luz Maria had a strong faith and trusted God all the days of her life. She lived by the motto "Dios es el que manda" God is in charge.

Her legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of everyone that she interacted with, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her resilience, courage, and love of life will be greatly missed.

Luz Maria was preceded in death by her husband Everardo Cortez and son Mario Cortez. She is survived by her sons (Armando, Abelardo, Valentin, Diego), daughters (Elena, Rosario, Marisela, Guadalupe) and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
