Obituary

Louie Hamilton, age 81, entered his Heavenly home on Friday morning July 26, 2019. He passed peacefully at home in Minneola, FL surrounded by his family. He was born November 15, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He proudly served as a US Marine for a short time until he returned home on medical discharge. He spent many years as a chef at several restaurants, including opening Johnny Bench's restaurant where he created over 8000 hor 'derves for opening night. He worked for Boone County Schools, where he taught adult culinary arts classes and was a custodian until he retired in 2000. Louie and Phyllis were planning to retire and move to Florida but they couldn't bear to leave behind the grandchildren that continued to come along year after year. Louie could build about anything. His other talented hobbies included cooking, gardening, helping others less fortunate, singing Elvis songs, traveling, and taking cruises. He spent many days with grandkids on his lap reading to them, playing Monopoly, teaching them new things and attending their extra-curricular activities. He attended First Church in Burlington, KY and after moving to Florida enjoyed attending Lake Hills Church in Clermont with his family. He was happiest when cooking meals for his family and spending time with them. He was very excited when they finally moved to the warmer climate of Florida in June 2018. The beautiful sunsets, lakes, and having Christmas on the beach were a few of the highlights.
He is preceded in death by his mother Bertha & his twin brother Larry who died a few months after birth & siblings James, Robert & Patricia. Survivors include his brother Gene Hamilton; his loving wife of 26 years, Phyllis Hamilton; his precious children Dawn Hinton (Paul) of Union, KY, Brooke Breeze (Jeff) of Lexington, KY; their mother Shirley Garrett of Florence, KY; Larry Barnes (Chrissy) of  Aurora, IN &  Shavanah Barnes-Spake (Lisa) of Minneola, FL. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren who he truly adored; Olivia & Aubrey Hinton, of Union, KY, Julianna, Lilly, Jonah, Aaron, Nash & Chloe Breeze of Lexington, KY, Kobe & Hailey (Nurse Elizabeth) Spake of Minneola, FL. Last but absolutely not least his fur babies Lyla Mae & Sissy Gale that spent most of their time right by his side. Memorials can be made to Lake Hills Church, 268 Mohawk Road., Clermont, FL 34715 outreach and children's ministry. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire VITAS staff and Teresa Karcsmar ARNP for their outstanding compassion, care & love.
