In Loving Memory of Loretta S. Fox

Loretta S. Fox passed away peacefully after a courageous five-year journey following a fall. Throughout her life, she demonstrated extraordinary strength, unwavering faith, and a heart devoted to serving others.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Loretta was a proud Philadelphian through and through. She was a devoted fan of the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, and never missed an opportunity to celebrate her hometown by dancing with the Philadelphia Mummers, proudly performing the famous Mummers Strut.

Loretta shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Robert Fox. They were married for 49 wonderful years before Robert’s passing 16 years ago. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, and generosity.

To know Loretta was to know someone who always put others first. She was the mother who attended every practice, every game, every meet, and every event. Whether it was football, cheerleading, track, or rowing, she was always there—cheering from the sidelines and quietly making sure every child felt supported. If a child needed a ride home, Loretta was the one who drove them. If someone was alone and needed a dinner, there was always a place for them at her table. If volunteers were needed, she had already signed up.

She even organized a ski club so neighborhood children could experience skiing in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Ironically, Loretta never learned to ski herself. Instead, she remained in the lodge throughout the day, making sure every child was safe, cared for, and had someone they could count on if they needed help. That was simply who she was.

Her compassion extended far beyond her own household. In her late twenties, Loretta welcomed her grandmother into her home and lovingly cared for her until her passing. Years later, after her mother suffered a stroke, Loretta once again opened her home and devoted herself to her mother’s care until the end of her life. Caring for others was never an obligation to Loretta—it was her calling.

Her life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and her relationship with God. She believed that serving others was one of life’s greatest purposes and lived that belief every day through quiet acts of kindness, sacrifice, and love. A touching memory that always brought her joy was that Pope Francis celebrated a Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on June 3 in their honor on the anniversary of Loretta and Robert’s wedding.

Nothing, however, brought Loretta greater happiness than her family and her beloved Brigantine Beach. She cherished summers at the shore and adored every moment spent with her grandchildren. They knew her not only as a loving grandmother but as a constant source of encouragement, warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

Loretta is survived by her children, Bobby, Tricia, and Christopher; her daughters-in-law, Dawn and Barbara; and her cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah—affectionately known as “Hurricane”—and Jules.

Loretta leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by accomplishments or possessions, but by the countless lives she touched through her generosity, humility, unwavering faith, and selfless love. She showed all who knew her what it means to put others before yourself, to serve without expecting recognition, and to love without limits.

Her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Robert, and with all those who have gone before her in faith. While she will be deeply missed, her example will continue to inspire generations of family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know and love her.

May we honor her memory not only with our words, but by living as she did—with kindness, compassion, humility, and a servant’s heart.
