Lettice Beckford Davis, 75 years old, resident of Clermont, Florida passed away on Friday, July 13 2012 at home in the arms of her husband Derrick Tomlin Davis and surrounded by her children, grandchildren, siblings and loving friends. She was born on August 6, 1936 in Lowe River, Jamaica daughter of Alfred Salome Beckford and Edith Orinthia Schloss-Beckford resides of Trelawney, Jamaica.  She was united in marriage to Derrick Tomlin Davis on April 28, 1962 at Lincoln Kirk Presbyterian Church in Kingston, Jamaica. She started their 50 year golden anniversary marriage as a resident of Jamaica before immigrating to Brooklyn, NY, USA, Toronto, Canada and then retiring to Clermont, Florida in 2005.



A brilliant student who graduated as a registered nurse, she started her academic career as a child while attending Lowe River Elementary School and Bohemia School when the family moved to Battersea, Jamaica. She commenced higher education at Karen Hall in St. Mary Parish, Jamaica and hereafter completed her professional nursing education at Kingston Public Hospital. An ambitious career woman who commenced a Bachelor of Science Degree in the 1970's at Brooklyn College, when she decided to dedicate more private time to her young children. Lettice pursued scholarly fulfilment through continuous education for nursing and medical profession studies until her retirement in 2001.



She was a loyal and proud member in Canada of the Ontario Nurses Association, the Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) and Rexdale Presbyterian Church (1976 - 2005). In Clermont, Florida she was a member of the Caribbean American Association of Lake County (CAALC), Southlake Presbyterian Church and Sisters of Sound.



Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband Derrick Tomlin Davis; daughter Grace Davis, Montreal, Canada; daughter Althea Davis, Son-in Law Ben Rijnders, granddaughters Lettice and Thalia ,Amsterdam, The Netherlands; surviving siblings in the USA: Beryl Beckford Walcott, Laurabel Beckford Bailey, Collis Reid Beckford; (Sheffield, England), Jennie Jordan, Monica Beckford Winford-Smith, Nelson Beckford. Deceased siblings; Linda Beckford, John Beckford, Viola Beckford, Myrtle Salome Beckford Weddersburn, Euton Beckford, Erminette Johnson Beckford. Surviving Nieces & Nephews, Surviving God-children; Humphrey Marylin Matthews, Monique Haughton; deceased God-child Andrew Johnson.
