Reverend Kenneth Arol Stoyer of Groveland, FL passed into eternal life Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospice, Orlando Regional Medical Center. Born, June 4, 1935 to Kenneth W. and Ella V. (Gilson) Stoyer at home in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He graduated Thiel College and Hamma Divinity School at Wittenberg University before being ordained into the Lutheran Ministry in 1961. He continued his education at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Northern Seminary, and Luther Seminary. Kenneth served as Interim Pastor in New Kensington, PA before serving as a Minister at churches in Vandergrift and New Castle, Pennsylvania. He served as Pastor at churches in Franklin Park, Forest Park, and Bloomingdale, Illinois. In 2000, after 40 years of service, the Rev. Kenneth Stoyer and his wife retired, traveling until they put down roots in Groveland, FL. After several years as a cast member at Walt Disney World, Kenneth was again called to serve as Interim Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church Groveland, FL. Kenneth, and his wife, Ruth, are members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Clermont, FL as well as Zion Lutheran Church, Groveland, FL.
Ken was known for his singing and enjoyed singing with many different choirs, including the recent Holiday performance of the Voices of Trilogy of Groveland. In his younger years, he was an avid softball player and was known for his left-handed catching ability at first base as well as drag bunting. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go camping, canoeing and golfing. Ken and Ruth loved to travel and have been to all 50 US states and many places around the world with friends and family.
Kenneth, a loving husband, father, and brother is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth M (Hoehn) Stoyer; his children Susan (Bruce) Soyring of Pittsgrove, NJ; Kenneth (Kristin) Stoyer of Lake Villa, IL; Carol (Craig) Laskey of Naperville, IL; and Beth (Timothy) Ringeisen of Exton, PA; his brother Richard of Takoma Park, MD; Grandchildren: Karen, Aaron, Mariah, Steven, Rebecca, Joanna, Jessica, Alexis, Gabriella, Zachary, Katherine and Christopher; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Jane (Cochran).
A Celebration of Life service to be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Shepherd of the Hills or Zion Lutheran Church designated for the Disaster Relief Fund.
