Keenya Laura Hewett-Martin was born the 7th of May 1974 and passed away on the 21st of July 2026 surrounded by loving friends and family after a very tragic and unexpected accident. She was the beautiful daughter of Angela “Pinky” Pinkney Grimes and Jackie “Bo” Grimes. Keenya was a delightful and loving child constantly playing in the beautiful Florida orange groves. She made friends throughout middle and high school that she would have for the rest of her life. Keenya graduated from Clermont High School in 1992. Following her graduation, she turned a three-week European vacation with her cousin, Scott, into a three-month journey only sending two postcards home.

She enlisted in the Air Force in 1999. She married the love of her life, Leathers Hewett, who followed her into the service after falling in love with her. They were stationed in Tucson, Arizona. A place that cultivated Keenya’s deep love for beautiful desert sunsets, crystals, and tacos.

Being a mother was the greatest joy of her life. Keenya gave birth to her daughter, Violet Simone in October 2002, and she welcomed her son, Phoenix Scott in April 2007. She was their biggest supporter and being their mother was her proudest achievement. Her light will forever shine through them. Her unconditional love and magnetic warmth nurtured every relationship.

Keenya made everyone she knew feel seen and loved. She had a magnificent ability to meet someone where they were, never judging, just having compassion and empathy. Whether you knew her as a mother, daughter, friend, teeny weeny or just someone she shared her kindness with, her sun will continue to shine through us all.

Knowing Keenya was knowing the most fun human being with the quickest wit. Her compassion and kindness for others was amazing to witness and to be a part of. She always stayed true to her authentic self. Keenya was a lover of all things good in this world. Especially impressionist art, soul soothing music like The Beatles and Billie Holiday, all animals but mostly puppies, and all of our Mother Nature. Her greatest love was her family. She loved so many people who were not blood relatives, but her heart and soul belonged to Phoenix and Violet. Her light will continue to shine through them and all the people who encountered her.

Keenya loved her family whole heartedly, always with a positive outlook and she wanted to see the good in every situation. Keenya said that we are all connected and there was never a person or animal that she would not bend over backwards to help. She was an avid collector of crystals and probably read more books in a year than most people read in a lifetime.

She was the most easy-going person but always up for a good time whether it was with friends or family. She was an excellent home cook and showed love through her food, just never sushi! Her garden was her sanctuary and her therapy. She was a creator, who cultivated beauty and life through her nurtured garden. Most days she would wait out the Florida heat and spend hours into the night pouring patience, care, and love into her garden. It was the same unconditional love that she gave Violet, Phoenix, and her fur babies Koda, and Saint (her beloved “Beastie Boys” as she called them.)

Keenya was the most courageous human being who was never afraid to speak up for what was right. She carried herself through the world knowing that love was a choice that she consciously made every single day. She possessed a rare and beautiful grace, intentionally choosing peace, kindness, and warmth. To know her was to truly understand the utter power of a magical and resilient heart. She did not just wish for a beautiful world; she created one through her love. She had a way of making the most out of the simplest of things, which is something that we should all embrace from her.

She peacefully joins her beloved PaDanny, Daniel Kyle in eternal rest. Her light is survived by her daughter, Violet Simone Hewett and son, Phoenix Scott Martin; and every other family member or friend who has been lucky enough to love and be loved by Keenya Laura.

Her celebration of life will be held afrom 3pm until 7pm, the 7th of August 2026, at 403 W. Osceola St. Minneola, FL 34715.
