Joyce S. Plumley, 93, of Clermont, FL passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017.
Joyce S. Plumley (Schrader)
She was beautiful, loving, kind, funny and a positive influence on those around her to the very end – always with a ready smile. She was a blessing and was blessed. Born in Cottontown, Tennessee on January 3, 1924, she lived most of her life in Tennessee and Florida.
She was the Strawberry Queen of Tennessee 4 years in a row in her 20's and a square dancing champion with her older brother. She could do many things: hunt, fish, sew, write poetry and cook – man could she cook!
Most of all – she loved; loved her family, friends, her church (First United Methodist, Clermont, FL) and was loved equally in return. A close friend recently described her: "Joyce was a strong willed Mom with a steeled back and a cotton soft heart; she was a fun, compassionate and loving person to be around."
Few People are blessed to have two loving husbands who adore them – but she did. She was married to Hoyt H. Plumley, Sr. for 50 years and had 4 children: Howard, Jere, Jim and Joy. After Hoyt's passing, she said she would never marry again… until she met Cecil G. "Bob" Schrader. They were a match made in heaven. He filled her heart and they had 11 years with more happiness, love and laughter.
Joyce spent most of her working life with college Alumni Associations; first at the University of Florida followed by the University of Tampa where she was the Alumni Director. Both colleges had a special place in her heart.
Joyce is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held at Becker Funeral Home, 806 W. Minneola Ave., Clermont, FL on Saturday September 16, 2017; Visitation 10 am – 11am; Service at 11 followed by internment at Clermont Cemetery.
