Joy was born in Coffee County, Alabama on 12/1/37. She married her sweetheart, Don, at the age of 16 and celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year. She had 2 children, Owen and Diane which she always said were her pride and joy and her biggest accomplishment in life. Even with working all day and having 2 children she went to night school and received her GED (which she was also proud of). She worked in the citrus industry most of her life at B & W Canning and then at Lykes Pasco where she retired. 
She loved quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, and making handbags. It seemed like there was nothing she couldn’t do. She loved football and baseball and was a huge Bama fan. She was always ready for a good garage sale and thrift store. It really didn’t take much to make her happy. She had the biggest heart and always put everyone else before herself. She loved God and her family with her whole heart and it brings peace knowing she is in the arms of her Lord.

She is survived by her husband Donald, son Owen Higdon, daughter Diane Riffle (Victor), four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at Becker Funeral Home Monday, August 10, 2026 10:00 - 11:00 AM followed by a Graveside Service at Greenwood in Groveland.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers a contribution to Mike Conley Hospice House in her honor.
