Obituary

John Henry Womack Jr., 86, of Clermont, Fl. went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday 25th January 2012.  He was born in LaFayette, Ga. on May 13, 1925.  John proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action in World War II on the Solomon Islands, Guam and the Marianas Islands as a Heavy Machine Gunner Sharpshooter.  Upon discharge, he returned to his family home in Sylacauga, Ala. and met and married Lucille Strickland Tyra and became the father to her two young sons, John L. and Huey Tyra.  The family moved to Daytona, Fl. in 1956 to be near their son John L Tyra who was on a football scholarship at Stetson University.  They later settled in Orlando where the family welcomed into their lives, a son Doyle. The family were members of Central Florida First Baptist Church where John served for many years as a  Deacon. When Lucile became ill with a long time illness, they moved to Clermont with their son Doyle and Gaila Womack.  Doyle predeceased his father as did his wife Lucille.

John met Winnie Rice during that time and they became dear friends. After Lucille when to be with the Lord John and Winnie remained friends, until this friendship developed into a deep and unconditional love for each other.  They were married June 11th, 2011 and were blessed with an incredible seven and a half months of happiness. Even though the last three months when John became ill and was in hospital for so long we were blessed in so many ways and God sent so many special people into his life.

John was truly a man of God who loved and served his Lord and Savior so faithfully in his lifetime.  He was a gentle giant of a man whose love knew no bounds. He loved his Lord with all his heart, he loved his family and his friends with a love so strong and true.  We shall all miss him terribly, but we have perfect assurance that he is now at home and at rest with his Heavenly Father. To God be the glory.

John is survived by his wife Winnie of Clermont Fl., his son John L Tyra and wife Harriett of Braselton Georgia, his son Huey Tyra and wife Polly of Belmont N.C. and his daughter-in-law Gaila Womack of Minneola Fl. and a step daughter Julie Hermanson of Clermont and husband Gregory, along with eight grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and eleven great grandchildren. He also leaves two sister-in laws and many nieces and nephews.  John was a man who lifted up to God twice a day the names of all of his family and friends.  We shall all miss him and always hold him close in our hearts.
