Obituary

John R. "Jack" Ubbink, 89, of Groveland, Florida passed away on March 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rochester, NY on December 13th, 1935 to Theresa and John Ubbink. Jack lived a life full of kindness, hard work, and caring for those he loved.

He was raised in Rochester, NY through the age of 13 when he decided to enter into the Seminary in Gerard, PA to pursue a path towards ministry. After the Seminary, Jack volunteered for the draft and served in the Army for 2 years. After serving, he studied Theology and received a Masters Degree from the University of Rochester. A short time later, he moved to Sarasota, FL where he met his wife and started his family. In 1974, he moved to Pine Hills, FL where he raised his family, taught religion for 35 years, and was the Attendance Dean at Bishop Moore Catholic School. Jack spent his long career building young minds and lasting relationships. In his free time, he was a voracious reader, avid member of his church community, enjoyed spending time with his beautiful family, and loved cheering on his favorite football teams; The Miami Dolphins, Notre Dame, and The Florida Gators.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Agnes Ubbink; son, John Ubbink (JoAnn), of Vero Beach; daughter, Noelle Cox, of Groveland; daughter, RoseMarie Glidewell (Ray), of Groveland; and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all enjoyed his giving nature and his great company. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and John Ubbink, brothers Howie Ubbink, Richard Ubbink, and Jim Ubbink, sister Mary Ubbink, daughter JeanneMarie Marlow, and grandchildren Karen Mehaffey and Cory Cox.
